Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been visiting my mom’s clinic. She’s actually a dentist. I was born in Cuba, and she was a dentist over there. So I was allowed to go in and see patients and play around with her things, which I know sounds funny, but it’s the way I grew up.
And then we moved to the US. I always knew that that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to help patients, and I loved the dental aspect of it, the actual procedures. And I had a little bit of an understanding of everything, so once I was old enough, I got myself to study hard during high school, college, got accepted to Temple Dental School, and graduated in 2019. And ever since, I’ve been practicing. I love what I do, and I hope patients can see that.
It’s just helping patients understand that oral health is very important. Everything you put in your body comes through your mouth first. And then once they have a good understanding of that, everything else is pretty simple. Getting to see them every six months, getting them from not being healthy to healthy, it’s probably one of the best things that I do.
Visit Dr. Katia Consuegra, a Dentist Who Wants to Know You
Dr. Consuegra – or Dr. C to many of her patients – has been practicing dental care since 2019. Her goal is to build interpersonal relationships with her patients. She loves it when patients become family and view her practice as their home away from home.
She completed her bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in psychology, graduating from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2014. Dr. Consuegra then studied at the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, where she completed her DMD in 2019. She joined our team in 2020.
Dr. C. was born on the biggest island of the Caribbean. Her father came to the United States from Cuba and lived apart from his family for seven years. When he was granted political asylum, he petitioned for his entire family to receive asylum as well. Dr. Consuegra immigrated to the U.S. when she was 13 years old, but it took two more years until she and her father were reunited with her mother and sister.
Dr. Consuegra also followed in her mother’s footsteps by becoming a dentist. She grew up listening to talks about teeth and the profession. She considers it a big plus that she can help patients be healthy and confident in their smiles.
She wants her patients to feel how much she genuinely cares about their well-being. That’s why she provides that small, family feel with personalized care when you visit her office. Patients are not just a number to her and our team. Patients are individuals who have needs and concerns, which she wants to quickly address. That includes using technology and equipment to deliver the best care possible.
Outside the office, she loves spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters: Katherine and Krystal. She also enjoys dancing and reading.
